Most managers are familiar with, and usually not a fan of “Performance Improvement Plans” that are utilized to hopefully correct a failure of performance in some way of one of their employees. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal (subscription may be required) offers a good overview of this tool and “Why the Most Hated Way of Firing Someone Is More Popular Than Ever.
