The past several years have seen remarkably low unemployment, which when coupled with inexorable demographic trends have created a war for talent that many, especially Boomers, thought would be waged indefinitely.

The high housing prices and strong stock market of the Covid era motivated many Boomers to retire early. But according to research from LinkedIn, many have found retirement boring or unfulfilling and more than few realized they were in danger of outliving their savings.

As a result, many of the retired boomers are headed back to the workforce.

The aforementioned research points out that “ Not only do baby boomers have a lifetime of experience, recent LinkedIn survey data shows they’re also the least likely generation to feel burnt out on the job — and separate Bain research shows they feel more loyal to their employers than other generations.”

This surprising trend may not be welcome by Gen Y and Z in the short run, but it creates new opportunities for acquiring seasoned talent that can help younger managers be ready for the day when the Boomers retire for good.
