Gossip is generally judged a bad thing, but as humans we will do almost anything to banish uncertainty from our lives even at the risk of absorbing or spreading false narratives that can hurt others, even when such is not usually intended.
The next time we’re tempted to share or listen to information that may be unfounded, we might profit from a dialogue attributed to Socrates (there is debate about whether it originated with him) that has been come to be known as the “Three Sieves of Socrates.”
