We all want to create “switching cost” for the goods and services we offer; it’s a competitive advantage. Sometimes, switching cost is created unintentionally. To wit, the “QWERTY” layout on nearly every keyboard in existence. The original keyboard designed by the typewriter’s inventor, Christian Sholes, in 1867 had an intuitive alphabetically ordered keyboard, but it created problems for early users.
A different answer was required. This short video explores how QWERTY came to be rule the keyboard universe and why its dominance is not likely to fade anytime soon.
