Tomorrow (Monday, January 20) is Martin Luther King Day but maybe the more consequential date is August 28, 1963; the day that Dr. King gave what may be one of the most famous speeches ever delivered.
Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech riveted the country and energized the civil rights movement. However, it’s not well known that Dr. King had originally planned to deliver a different speech and but for a last second appeal from a bystander that day, the world might not have heard this iconic oration.
Vistage Chair and Business Historian Greg Bustin takes us back to 1963 and offers a short summary of what happened that day and “Why Martin Luther King’s historic speech was almost never delivered.”
