Everyone has heard of the assembly line. Most businesspeople think that it was Henry Ford who first applied it in the manufacturing of automobiles. It reduced the time to make a car from 1.5 days to 1.5 hours.
However, the assembly line was not Ford’s creation. An employee brought him the idea who was drawn by its use in another industry where it was the act of taking things apart, not assembling them that created value.
Take 3 min 20 seconds (twice as long as it took Ford to make a car) to understand where the assembly line, and your comfortable middle-class existence really came from.
