The pandemic has presented many new challenges, not the least of which is the extent to which employees will be allowed to work from home. This policy decision impacts both the company culture and winning the War for Talent as many desirable employees are now demanding, and often getting, work from home privileges.
This past week Tesla CEO Elon Musk (and perhaps future owner of Twitter) announced that all Tesla employees need to return to the office immediately and that failure do so will effectively mean a resignation.
That he is serious about this is underscored by his statement that “if there are particularly exceptional contributors for whom this is impossible, I will review and approve those exceptions directly.”
Dr. Scott Galloway Comments: Scott Galloway (“No Mercy, No Malice” blog) appeared on Michael Smerconish’s show on CNN with his comments on Musk’s announcement and how the real motivation behind it is more about avoiding severance that Musk will find necessary if the latter’s prediction for the economy comes to pass.
