Can you believe it’s been five years this month since the alarm of the Covid pandemic was sounded? (For a little perspective, America’s involvement in World War II was just under 4 years). Many things change after a crisis; some go back to where they were, some never go back…. and some survive partially.
To wit: Work from home.
The pandemic made WFH necessary but as it faded, many employees have resisted returning to work. Some companies have demanded they do; others have been more accommodating. An article in Chief Executive Magazine asks “Your employees still want the opportunity to work remotely, but you want them in the office. Now what?”
There won’t be a single right answer. CEO may want employees back under one roof but that may not be the best answer; employees who like the convenience of working from home may miss out on the mentoring and advancement opportunities that only in person work can provide.
This article, “After Hybrid: Bringing Employees Back,” does an excellent job of unpacking the relevant issues and offering examples of companies that are successfully addressing this issue.
