Companies grow because of a great vision, great luck, or both (usually). The same can happen with cities.

To wit: Las Vegas.

Known as “Sin City,’ Las Vegas is best known for legalized gambling on the famous “Strip” inspired by the first modern casino, The Flamingo which was the vision of mobster Ben “Bugsy” Siegel as retold in the biopic “Bugsy” set in the late 1940’s. But the foundations of Las Vegas began over a hundred years earlier and offers an interesting lesson in why cities, as well as companies, succeed: to meet an unmet need (legitimate or not).
