As it’s Memorial Day weekend, I wanted to include a post about leadership in a military context. If you asked most Americans to name the most important military event in our history, the Normandy Invasion on June 6, D-Day during World War II would be one of the top responses. (The eightieth anniversary of what has been called “The Longest Day” is coming up on June 6)

The decision to launch the greatest amphibious invasion in World History fell upon the shoulders of General Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower. As a decision maker I hope you will take a few minutes to read a blog post by Vistage Chair and Business History expert Greg Bustin who offers an executive summary of the one of the most important choices made by any leader.

It’s unlikely that any of us will ever have so much riding on any of our decisions, but I hope you’ll take a minute to learn what “Ike” faced on D-Day: Weather, Planning, Luck and Guts. Which is an excerpt from Mr. Bustin’s book Decision Time: Inspiration, Insights & Wisdom From History’s Make or Break Moments.” that I feel should be on every decision maker’s desk.
