Every big company was once a very small one. To wit, the 100-store grocery store chain known as Wegman’s. Wegman’s began life as the two Wegman brothers and a produce cart. Today, it is one of the largest grocery store chains in America according to a brief video overview of the company today on CBS’s “Sunday Morning” program.
Wegman’s success is attested to not only by its size, number of stores and loyal customer base but by the number of people who want to work there. According to CEO Colleen Wegman and President Nicole Wegman, in 2024 350,000 people applied for 10,000 openings at Wegman’s and the company enjoys a retention rate at least two times that of the industry average.
Wegman’s runs company owned farms, cheese caves, and even has a sushi restaurant in NY where the fish come from Japan and are “processed” in a most unusual way.
